What is Executive Function Coaching?

Executive function coaching is supportive, action-oriented, and personalized to fit your child’s unique needs. Each session focuses on building tools and routines that strengthen confidence, independence, and follow-through.

Coaching helps students move from feeling stuck or overwhelmed to feeling capable and in control of their learning. Together, we focus on practical skills that make daily life and schoolwork more manageable.

Depending on your child’s goals, we may work on:

  • Building routines and structures that reduce stress

  • Strengthening time management, organization, and task completion

  • Learning how to prioritize and break assignments into manageable steps

  • Improving communication and self-advocacy

Coaching is a collaborative process — each session is tailored to where your child is now and where they want to go.

My 5 Step Coaching Process

  • The inquiry meeting is an opportunity for us to learn more about the transformation you’d like to see while working with an executive functioning coach, as well as a chance for me to share how I can support your goals. Through a series of questions, we’ll collaboratively determine if we are a “right fit” for each other.

Inquiry meetings last about 25 minutes and can take place over the phone or virtually.

Book your free inquiry meeting by sending me an email here.

  • Once we decide to move forward, I’ll guide your family through a structured onboarding process. This includes:

    • Reviewing any assessments, IEPs, 504 plans, or other documents you’d like to share

    • Gathering context from teachers or other professionals if needed

    • Discussing your teen’s current challenges, goals, and preferences

    • Setting up a clear schedule and expectations for coaching sessions

The onboarding step ensures we start with a shared understanding and a tailored plan to support your teen’s success.

  • During weekly sessions, we work directly with your teen to strengthen their executive function skills. I focus on building P.O.S.I.T.I.V.E. skills:

    • Planning

    • Organization

    • Self-advocacy

    • Initiation

    • Time management

    • Inhibition management

    • Visualizing outcomes

    • Evaluating priorities

We practice these skills in real-time, addressing the most challenging academic or life dilemmas as they come up. Sessions are hands-on, online, and multi-sensory. Between sessions, optional check-ins support task initiation and follow-through.

  • Every 4–6 weeks, we hold a Family Team Meeting (FTM) to review wins, adjust goals, and assign responsibilities. Your teen’s voice is always central, and I facilitate the conversation to ensure everyone on the team is heard.

The FTM is also a space to share feedback and make sure coaching continues to meet your family’s goals.

  • As your teen gains confidence and independence, we gradually reduce the intensity of sessions. Phase-out is incremental, allowing your teen to take ownership of their skills while still having guidance.

We typically recommend a minimum of 12 sessions to fully integrate P.O.S.I.T.I.V.E. skills, though some students benefit from a longer timeline as they move into higher grades. A phase-out plan is customized and discussed during a Family Team Meeting.
